Mrs. Susan Shabangu, Minister for Women in the Presidency of South Africa
joins the African Women's Forum in Geneva.
Minister Shabangu has a long history of political involvement, having been involved in the anti-apartheid struggle serving in various capacities, she was one of the women who led the revival of the Federation of South African (FEDSAW) during the time of high repression in the late 1978, leading up to the formation of the Federation of Transvaal Women, Natal Women’s Organisation (NOW), Port Elizabeth Women’s Organisation.
In 1981 she was an active member of the Anti-Republic Campaign Committee and she was involved in the formation of the Release Mandela Campaign Committee (RMC) in 1982.
Minister Shabangu recently launched the 2015 Women's Month in August as a tribute to the more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union Buildings on 9 August 1956 in protest against the extension of Pass Laws to women.
